Fractions DLO

Kia ora Koutou for the past few days we have been learning to properly understand fractions and figure out what the numerator and denominator did. The Teacher explained what the two words meant, The numerator means how much pieces they have eaten or taken and the denominator means how much pieces there originally are. We had to make a DLO to explained how we solved the problems that we already answered. When we finished our DLO we had to Screencastify it so people could listen to it. Here is the video link.

Meke Turbo Touch

Kia ora koutou in Te Ngahere week one our new teacher Whaea Shanna taught us a new game called turbo touch. Whaea shanna explained the rules so we could understand how to play, we went onto the field to practice a bit. Before we started to practice each team had to have four to five players. Once we had a good fifteen minutes of practice we got into the real game my team of boys had won all our games. Our teacher gave us a challenge ( our group thought was easy which it was) 5 players against 10, she gave us the challenge because our team was really good we let the option start with the ball. We enjoyed playing Turbo touch, hopefully Whaea Shanna Stays a bit longer this year.

Re-learning Aha Ngapuhi E

Kia ora Koutou for the past few weeks Paihia Kapa Haka Roopu have been re-learning the haka Aha Ngapuhi E. We did not take long to learn the words but it was hard to pronounce them properly but we got there. A couple days later we started to learn the actions some were easy but the other were a bit hard. We have not been saying and doing the right things for this haka because our tutors told us “back in the old days people did not pronounce the proper words and they got lazy and started making their own words up”. It makes us feel happy that we re-learned this haka and we when present the haka we are not embarrassed of doing a different way. Because now we have the same action and Kupu as the rest of Ngapuhi. When we complete learning Aha Ngapuhi we will teach the rest of the school so they know the haka as well.

enjoy Kai Kite.

Swim Safety With Whaea Tracy

Kia ora bloggers last Thursday Whaea Tracy came to Te Ngahere to talk about swim safe. She came and talk to use about being safe on the water and being in the water. First she talked to us about the five rules being safe on the water. There are five rules to be safe on the water the first rule is You need a suitable life jacket for yourself and others. Rule number two is to tell who your going with how many people your taking and tell them what time you would be back. The third rule is to take a flare one that is safe there are two safe options the flare gun and a parachute flare it is a really safe one though . The fourth rule is to check the weather before going out on the water just to be safe. The fifth rule on the water is to buy a boat beacon for your boat and you can buy a little one for yourself small one is really handy. These are really handy rules so you can be safe on the water.

Next time I could work faster to get a DLO done.

Free Standing Tower

In Te Ngahere we have been doing STEAM challenges. Our challenge was to make the tallest newspaper tower. The rule was we had to use limited equipment to create our tower. The limited equipment was 30 cm of tape and two sheets of newspaper. The tricky part was we had to use 30 cm of tape, but if we wanted the tape in smaller pieces we had to bite the tape to make it smaller, because the limited equipment didn’t include scissors. We had to use two sheets of newspaper. we were able to split it in half but it had to be done by hand  as we could not use any other equipment.

What I could do better next time is to think of a better idea to create our tower. When it was time to go up and measure our tower my group and I had not completed our tower. We were very nervous because we had not finished. We had a Great time Ka Kite
