Swim Safety With Whaea Tracy

Kia ora bloggers last Thursday Whaea Tracy came to Te Ngahere to talk about swim safe. She came and talk to use about being safe on the water and being in the water. First she talked to us about the five rules being safe on the water. There are five rules to be safe on the water the first rule is You need a suitable life jacket for yourself and others. Rule number two is to tell who your going with how many people your taking and tell them what time you would be back. The third rule is to take a flare one that is safe there are two safe options the flare gun and a parachute flare it is a really safe one though . The fourth rule is to check the weather before going out on the water just to be safe. The fifth rule on the water is to buy a boat beacon for your boat and you can buy a little one for yourself small one is really handy. These are really handy rules so you can be safe on the water. 

Next time I could work faster to get a DLO done. 

Free Standing Tower

In Te Ngahere we have been doing STEAM challenges. Our challenge was to make the tallest newspaper tower. The rule was we had to use limited equipment to create our tower. The limited equipment was 30 cm of tape and two sheets of newspaper. The tricky part was we had to use 30 cm of tape, but if we wanted the tape in smaller pieces we had to bite the tape to make it smaller, because the limited equipment didn’t include scissors. We had to use two sheets of newspaper. we were able to split it in half but it had to be done by hand  as we could not use any other equipment. 

What I could do better next time is to think of a better idea to create our tower. When it was time to go up and measure our tower my group and I had not completed our tower. We were very nervous because we had not finished. We had a Great time Ka Kite

Week 8: Practicing for the Kaikohe culture festival.

Kia ora bloggers, for the past few weeks our Kapa Haka Roopu has been practicing for the Kaikohe cultural festival. We are working very hard to complete our bracket, My goal is to work on my sharp movements and don’t be as stiff but move with the waiata rhythm. We have been using our rakau that we cut, smoothed and polished but sadly we have to wait until they get blessed before we use them outside of school. We have been putting new ideas into our whole bracket but also things that I’ve struggled with facials and keeping focused so I can be a good role model for our backline. Our roopu is slowly getting smaller two people actually dropped out of the roopu but we are still doing great even though our roopu is small. Also on Monday we even have a after school practice I think it’s going to be fun. Blog you later.

Kaikohekohe Cultural Festival.

Kia ora koutou. Today our Kapa Haka Roopu finally went to the Kaikohekohe Cultural Festival. We had a fantastic time there. It was amazing to see our whanau watching us. It was a bit nerve-racking to go up on the stage. Once we started we were fine but when we got half way through some us made a lot of mistakes but we still kept going. Once we got off our whanau and friends came and gave their kids a hug and a cheer; they were so happy. The Kapa Haka roopu was so happy that they went and performed there. We were so glad we came back and our teacher said our reward was a juicy each. It was pretty relaxing and refreshing to eat. We hope we can get another opportunity like this again. Kia ora. Roopu Rakau

Roopu Rakau Yesterday the boys from the kapa haka roopu finally had a chance to work on their rakau. First we did a karakia to start off our day once we finished our karakia we got handed our rakau. Then we got given instructions about safety, which we had to be careful on how we handle the power tools. After that we began to sand the bark off our rakau it was really tiring to do but we still got there. Then later on we got the electric sanders first we used p80 ( we didn't really understand what that meant), then we used p120 sandpaper to make it even smoother. We would have our usual breaks at morning tea and lunch then we would get back to our rakau, once we finished sanding with the p120 we would an other sander we called the black smoother sander we all laugh because it was really funny it took a long time to do but we finished using the black smoother sander. We used this special oil to make our rakau shiny (if you drank the oil you would most likely die). We called it coating oil because we used it to coat the rakau we had to use a cloth and some gloves, when we had done we took a photo. I really enjoyed doing the rakau with my friends.

Te Reo Week 2

Te Reo Week 2 

 Kia ora Bloggers the last week we have been doing Te reo Maori we had to make a google slide. When we finished creating the slide we would take photos of our buddy or ourselves we would also use an app to take the background out to make png. We would say He Aha Tenei meaning What is this then we would reply He something Tena but we wouldn’t actually say He something tena for example He aha tenei ? He pene rakau tena we had to do ten slides of different objects we used the photos that we download from the app and put the photo on the google slide we were also able to buy ourselves or with a buddy my buddy was Dalton. We have been having fun we are going to do something fun next too well blog you later.         

The Ned Show!!!!

In week two we had two special guests come to our school. Their names were Ned and the Amazing Nicole. They came to our school to tell us how our brain works and about Mindset Mission. Ned stands for N Never Give Up, E Encourage others and D means TO DO YOUR BEST. We all learnt that instead of giving up we needed to keep going and Nicole said use the power of Yet!!!. Which means I can’t do it YET but don’t give up. Nicole presented some tricks through her show she used an Excelerator (the excelerator is a very cool yoyo it is an yoyo for professional but you do not have to be professional to buy one). She did so many cool tricks like around the world and other cool ones. I really in enjoyed ( even though I was late) the show was very interesting. Bye
