Kapa Haka

Kia Ora Bloggers, for the past few weeks our Paihia School Kapa Haka Roopu have been practicing for the Kawakawa Cultural Festival.

Our Roopu have been learning a new bracket and we also have been learning to use the rakau in the Haka and our Entrie.

We have to practice being on time, make sure our volume is good, stay on key and most important of all is to focus and stay disciplined. We practice mainly every lunchtime, as part of our warm up we have been learning how to warm up our vocal cords. Sometimes we sing with the guitar and without.

I enjoy doing kapa haka with my friends and I like the discipline because when we don’t listen to Matua Pep aka my dad he will make us either do press ups or go for a run then when we finish every body is tired and does want to listen to Matua Pep My Dad is a very good kapa haka teacher and I also like that he is may dad.

Sea Cleaners

On tuesday the Sea Cleaners came to our School and they told us to pick up rubbish. They said that they have been picking up a lot of rubbish that they find and they have a boat and when they see the  rubbish in the sea water they pick it up with there net. They are saving the sea and the animals because they have to clean up other people's rubbish when they should clean up there own. They are nice sea cleaners I like people who clean other people's mess and if you see rubbish don’t walk past it… PICK IT UP.

Magic Show

On Wednesday A Magician came to Paihia School we were learning about to eat healthy but for some reason we had to pay for the magic show but it was worth it what I enjoyed at the magic show was when he dupacated money. Dump thing was the it wasn’t NZ money and … he was talking about what to eat and not to eat.

Our Identity / Waitangi

Last Week on Thursday and Friday the year 6’s ent to the Waitangi Treaty Grounds. On Thursday we didn't do much learning cause it was our first day there so instead of work we had a tutu (tutu means play) with their activities. My favourite was the VR (VR is short for Virtual Reality) the VR is a device that you use to go into different worlds and use different things also we had to design. A hoe on tinkercad also tinkercad is a game that you use shapes to make things or scribble we had fun making hoe but before we did all of that (sorry I didn't tell you)we went to the museum to understand how the Treaty was signed and how maori tangata learned how to speak Te reo Maori but the paper was not really it was a copy of the real signed Treaty we had fun on thursday but sadly we had to come back we had fun at the treaty grounds playing on the devices. going to the treaty grounds was the best day I had( Ko te haere ki te whenua tiriti ko te ra pai rawa atu i ahau).

Maths DLO

In Te Ngahere we been learning Doubling and Halving. We had to explain about the strategy we had to solve the math problems. For example: 22x4=? this might look hard but it’s quite easy when you use this strategy so you have to divide/Half the higher number and the double the lower number to make 11x8=88 so the go back to your first problem and then write the answer to the your problem will be solved 22x4=88. One time I wrote something on my DLO and then my teacher saw something then told me you can’t always half the higher number sometimes you have to double the higher number the example and half the smaller number. Doubling and Halving is really fun now I would like to learn trebling and thirding one time so I know what to do when we come to this Strategy.

Waitangi

On Monday the 18th, Whaea Kerry and Whaea Monika came to our school, so we could learn that everyone is important also learnt to make the trees on Tinkercad because our class name is Te Ngahere (The bush). Next Whaea Kerry and Whaea Monika made a waka (for people that we made). So we all could fit everybody on the waka. We had to work as a team to pull the waka. Once we paddled to shore as a ropu we helped each other carry the waka onto land. My trees were made from paint 3d. We also made some animals to go into Te Ngahere, as we made a video with all of the things that we created. We added more things to our video. Such as Birds and Insects, Whaea Kerry will add our new ideas to the video and then they will come back to school to show us the whole movie that our whole class created.
